Tomorrow will be Sizzle's first rehearsal. About three weeks ago, she leapt off the school bus waiving a flyer. The flyer was an open invitation for elementary age students to audition for the local high school production of Annie. They needed two sets of twenty children to play the orphans. There was a requirement to attend an audition and sing a song from the show.
To be honest, I was a nervous wreck about Sizzle's excitement. What if she didn't get picked? What if she did ? If she hadn't intercepted the flyer, I would have never mentioned this audition. For starters, she is six years old and we can barely keep up with the concept that she has to attend school every day, let alone extra-curricular activities. Especially activities that become family commitments. The thought of having to bring a 4 year old sister and 18 month old brother to a theater and expect to keep them wrangled and quiet while people sing and dance on a stage is terrifying.
Well, leading up the audition, she learned the song, and sang for everyone who would listen. Her dear teacher encouraged her daily. Anyone who walked into their classroom, was offered a Sizzle's serenade. Her confidence was endless and it carried her right through the tryout. She will be in her first play in April, just before she leaves her sixth year and bounds into her seventh.
My quirky, shy and day-dreaming girl is thrilled at the idea of standing in front of strangers and singing her song. I am totally surprised, and a little bit not.
