With young kiddos, I have found there is enough time in a week to pursue only one thing on my personal agenda. I would love to garden, bake, craft, sew, knit, or blog. However, I seem only capable of squeezing out one pursuit at a time. Throughout Febuary and March the ONE pursuit was learning to sew.
Every spare moment I had, went to taking a tiny bite out of the parade of steps needed to complete a project. I would thread my needle while the bath water filled the tub. I would measure an item during a phone conversation. I would cut one piece of the project while Brian read a book to one of the kids. Inch by inch a skill was absorbed. I made constant mistakes while stealing moments. At times, learning this skill was very frustrating because I wanted the option to focus solely on sewing. I wanted to "pause" my children (and husband and work obligations) so I could work in a vacuum, without interruption or distraction. At a low point I emailed a friend saying, "Sewing for me is like an abusive relationship. Luckily, I am on the upswing of the cycle of violence."
Now that it is over though, I am grateful for the way I was forced to take the e-course. I was required to zero in on each step. I was shoved out of my comfort zone and into the attention to detail zone. So ultimately, my crazy life that pulls me in multiple directions at once, has made me a better seamstress.
Using the term 'seamstress" VERY lightly of course. ;)
PS.
I took the pictures with my phone. A photography course needs to be in my future.
