Each holiday season begins in our home with a chipper long list of things we plan to do leading up to Christmas. Tiny cards with handwritten activities, instructing the children to make chocolate-covered pretzels, decorate a gingerbread house or sip hot chocolate by the fire, are churned out and placed in our lovely (store bought) advent calendar (that looks handmade of course!). Somewhere between December 6th and um, now, we run out of steam. Yes, I said WE run out of steam, because even the children seem to drift off from the daily excitement of checking the little pockets.
To be honest, by this time, I am more than a little relieved. The speed always picks up this week as school prepares to shut down and class parties get organized (down to the minute, I might disturbingly add). I remember I haven't gotten anything for my work friends, or outside of work friends, or anyone really beyond our little huddle of five. This week, is the week I have to remember to churn through my other lists with joy.
I am happy to report that things are humming along and I haven't gone all Psycho Scrouge. ;)
I am even planning on creating peppermint bark tonight. That is, after I unload the dishwasher, plug in the Christmas tree, change the little guys' diaper, and sterilize the jars......
Yes, this is the week that we often run out of steam around here. ;)
